Gratitude as a Marketing Strategy to Grow Your Business

Gratitude as a Marketing Strategy to Grow Your Business

Are you looking for new ways to grow your business?   If you are read on to learn more about how gratitude is one of the easiest and most effective ways to build loyal lasting client relationships.

Our latest guest on the RMA Weekly Spotlight is the best-selling author of Gratitude Marketing™, Michael Sciortino. In the book Michael explores how financial advisors can leverage the principles of helping others, expressing gratitude, and the reciprocity rule, to market themselves and their businesses. The book focuses on 33 simple secrets from successful financial advisors. He also notes that the focus is not always on the latest and greatest.  For some advisors (in my opinion, all of us), the best tactic is also simply to regularly write thank-you notes to express your gratitude to those who have helped you to grow your business!

What I found from the book, is that while it is written for financial advisors, these 33 secrets work well for anyone who has clients.

Let’s learn a little more about Michael and the power of Gratitude Marketing.

1. Tell me About Your Topic
While traditional marketing speaks at people, Gratitude Marketing engages and connects with people. Gratitude Marketing helps you connect on a deeper and more meaningful level with the clients you are committed to for the long term. Gratitude motivates positive reciprocal behavior.  It also combines both emotion and behavior. There is a feeling of appreciation and an expression of that appreciation through some kind of action. Gratitude, therefore, can serve as the basis of a relationship beyond the transaction. If a client believes that an advisor has his or her best interests at heart, that client is more inclined to develop a long-term relationship with the advisor.

Give us 3 simple ideas that can be implemented immediately

  1. Recognize your client’s big days (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)- Sure you may have heard of this, but how many of you are doing it?
  2. Set aside time each day to call three clients, just to say hi and check in and be fully present in that conversation. As Zig Ziglar stressed that “you never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.”
  3. The birthday lunch idea – This is an extension of the first idea above. Call up your client who is celebrating their birthday in the upcoming months and invite them to lunch. Encourage them to bring three of their friends along. What client would not respond to such warmth and gratitude? At the lunch, do not talk about business.

2. Why is it so important?
Two reasons:
1) Clients deserve your undivided attention
2) The cost of acquiring new clients is 7 times the cost of retaining an existing client.
