This week we sat down with Maribeth Kuzmeski to discuss her core programs and to learn a little bit more about her and what makes her tick.
I had the privilege of seeing Maribeth presently recently. I was able to attend the InvestmentNews Women Adviser Summit in Boston and watch her present her new program – Clarifying Your Value and Proving Your
Fees in the Evolving World of Financial Services. The photo attached is my attempt to sit in the back of the room and take a photo of her on my iPhone.
The presentation really focused on how do advisors market themselves in the post DOL world where one’s value proposition is more important than ever. It’s also just as important to deliver your brand and value proposition online as it is in person. This is where we started our conversation.
1. Tell me About Your Topic
I share strategies for acquiring new business from the playbooks of the world’s most successful advisors. I teach what’s working right now to attract new clients and fans, expose your brand, get people talking, and differentiate yourself in this ADD world where no one is paying attention. From new media to traditional methods and referral strategies, these strategies are mostly inexpensive, can be implemented immediately, and are generating significant sales.
2. Why is it so important?
Today more than ever, powerful messaging regarding your value matters. Do your clients know what you charge and all that you do for the fees? Do your prospects believe your value is worth the price? Is your presentation of value memorable? I share some of the best practice value/fee conversations being used today that are undeniably strong, memorable, repeatable, and easy to deliver. Given continual industry changes, the one thing you must control is your own message of value.
3. What motivates you to do what you do?
The possibility to impact the lives of others.
4. Why did you choose the profession of becoming a keynote speaker?
I consider myself to be a marketing strategist and consultant who also speaks about what’s actually working.
5. What is most important to you when it comes to speaking to an audience?
To inspire the audience to take ideas that are working and bring them back to their practice and use them right away.
6. What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?
Take the risks necessary to stand out in business.
7. What is your philosophy towards your work?
Work as hard as possible to serve the needs of those who have hired my firm.
8. What do colleagues say is your best quality?
Passion for what I do.
9. Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My grandmother. She was an incredibly strong woman who cared deeply about others. My goal is always to be like her.
10. How do you stay current?
I read as much as humanly possible.
11. What’s your favorite website and why?
ESPN because my passion outside of work is sports.
12. What motivates you and what doesn’t?
People who are interested in changing, learning and improving motivate me. The people who are okay with the status quo do not motivate me.
13. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I was the captain of the golf team in high school.
